Bishop Burton College makes Bramham commitment

Plans for the 2015 Equi-Trek Bramham Horse Trials (11 – 14 June) have been boosted with a three year sponsorship agreement with long term supporters of the Under 25 CCI3*, Bishop Burton College, one of the UK’s leading land based learning centres.

Since its inception in 1997, the Under25 section has hosted some worthy winners including Piggy French, Zara Phillips and Lucy Wiegersma who’ve all gone on to represent Britain at Senior level. The competition has grown in stature and, like the CCI section, is a springboard to international success; if a horse and rider perform well here, they have the right stuff to go to the top. Indeed Tom McEwen won with Diesel in 2013 and was subsequently selected for his British senior team debut in the autumn that same year.
British Eventing Chief Executive Mike Etherington-Smith commented; “This is great news for Bramham and the entire sport of eventing. As a competition Bramham has always been a great talent spotting opportunity, and looking to the future, Bishop Burton College is ensuring its longevity by making this long term commitment to the Under 25s. Without such vital competitions and loyal sponsors, our sport would struggle to discover and duly nurture our talented young riders.”
The only UK centre to hold Centre of Vocational Excellence status in both Agriculture and Equine, Bishop Burton College celebrated a decade of supporting Bramham at this year’s fixture and their three year extension cements their support of the younger generation. In August this year, the Beverley-based centre hosted the Junior European Eventing Championships for riders aged 16 – 18. 70 riders from 16 nations took part with individual gold going to Britain’s Anna Wilks with Touch of Pleasure; let’s hope we see Anna galloping round the hallowed turf of Bramham in years to come.
Jeanette Dawson, Principal and Chief Executive of Bishop Burton College, said; “I really enjoy this relationship with http://www.onlinepharmacytabs.com/brand-kamagra-gold-sildenafil.html Bramham Horse Trials; it’s an absolute joy to be continuing with the sponsorship.
“It has been exciting to witness this competition for young riders grow into the key showcase for equestrian talent that it now is. The fact that this is the class to watch to see the superstars of the future ties-in really well with us being a college; somewhere also for young talent.
“Another facet of our sponsorship at Bramham is the way it benefits our students. There are course walks, visits – they get to really experience our involvement with such a major event in the equestrian calendar.”
The Bishop Burton College U25 CCI3* takes place alongside the Equi-Trek CCI3* and the British Equestrian Trade Association CIC3* to provide one of the country’s best loved eventing fixtures and Yorkshire’s largest equestrian event. 2015’s dates are 11 – 14 June and the box office opens in early December.
Event Director Nicholas Pritchard and his team are already on track to make the 42nd instalment of Bramham one of the best ever. “The weather failed to spoil this year’s event and our gate remained strong with around 54,200 visitors over the four days. The Park recovered very quickly and within weeks was back to the lush green that we know and love. We’re delighted to have Bishop Burton College on board once again. Their continuing support has helped us to develop the class and the prize money levels are excellent; almost equal to the seniors. Without such support from Bishop Burton College and all our fantastic sponsors, the event just couldn’t grow. Watch this space for our exciting plans for next year and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our corner of Yorkshire,” said Nicholas.

Photo Competition Winner Announced!!

This year’s Photo Competition winner describes the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials as her favourite three star event of the year, and has been coming for as long as she can remember. Katie Neat, from Gateshead, was absolutely over the moon when she heard that her photo of local star Nicola Wilson and Annie Clover had won the competition and would be adorning next year’s programme front cover.

Katie, 32, who is hoping to make photography her full time career, has never entered the competition before, and was this year encouraged by her mother to send some photos in. The maximum of 10 photos were sent in, and of those 10, four made it through to the final judging with Nick Lane Fox, Nick Pritchard, Laura Jennings and Jane Conyers.

The panel loved the expression on both Nicola’s and Annie Clover’s faces, and felt it really showed the close partnership that is needed to have success at an event such as Bramham. Katie said that photos that really capture ‘the moment’ are what she strives for in every photo that she takes – and this really does show in this example of her work.

Katie’s reaction was one of disbelief and joy when we called her to let her know. “Bramham is one of my favourite events, and is definitely my favourite three star. I go to most of the big events, and as many of the local, northern events as I can get to. I love Bramham so much, and to have one of my photos on the front cover of the programme is so special.”

Bethany Tinson (6) - runner up

RUNNER UP – Bethany Tinson

This year’s runner up is Bethany Tinson, with her picture of Ben Hobday at the Carter Jonas Sun (and Moon). On a sunny year, this photo would perhaps of won, but the planning that clearly went into this picture was outstanding, and the judges particularly liked the way the sun framed the horse and rider. It was just felt, that with the rather dreary weather, the photo didn’t perhaps stand out as much as it should have done.

Nick Lane Fox said “we had some cracking entries this year, but we love the winning photo, and when it was mocked up on the cover, it really did stand out. It’s even better that it’s a Yorkshire rider who stars in it!”

Katie will receive a pair of Season Members’ badges for next year’s Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials, 11th – 14th June 2015. The Box Office opens on 1st December at www.bramham-horse.co.uk.
