It’s December and the Box Office for next year’s Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials is officially open! To mark the occasion, the team has selected their charitable partner for next year’s event, 7 – 10 June 2018 as St Gemma’s Hospice, a local, independent charity based in nearby Leeds who provide end-of-life care to patients with terminal illness.
Event Director Nicholas Pritchard said; “St Gemma’s Hospice has touched a number of people’s lives in the area around Bramham and Leeds, with many having relatives and friends who’ve been helped by the hospice. Our visitors are always generous and in the eight years of supporting a charity, our total raised is nearing £100,000. It’d be amazing if we achieve that landmark amount in 2018.”
As one of the leading hospices in the UK, St Gemma’s cares for adults who have illnesses that are no longer curable and support over 3,000 people annually including patients, their families and carers. The Hospice has a 32 bed in-patient unit to provide individual and unique care for each patient to provide the best end-of-life care and pain relief and symptom control. The team also extend their specialist care outside the facility to help those who prefer to be at home or nursing home residents via their Community Nurse Specialists.
Patients’ families and carers are also supported by the St Gemma’s team. Bereavement workers provide support to all, including children and young people.
In 2018, the Hospice celebrates 40 years since they opened their doors so the association with Bramham gives a chance to make 2018 one of their best fund raising years yet. It costs around £10 million every year to provide the services to the community so the team will be at the event throughout the show raising vital funds. All their care and support is provided free to anyone who can benefit from it.
“We’re extremely grateful to the Bramham team for deciding to support our work in 2018,” commented acting Chief Executive Jason Kirk. “St Gemma’s Hospice has been part of the Leeds community for over 40 years, so we have cared for many thousands of patients with terminal illnesses and supported their families during this time. As a charity, we totally rely on funds raised by the local community so we are really looking forward to working with Bramham to make the most of this amazing opportunity to fundraise in our special year,” he continued.
