Jane Horton, from Harewood near Harrogate, emerged the deserved winner of this year’s Photo Competition. 2017 marked the eighth running of this competition, of which the winner has their photo adorned on the front cover of the following year’s programme, and it also marked the eighth time that Jane had entered! Three of Jane’s photos made the final judging – which consisted of 28 photos, which had been whittled down from 179 entries – but the decision was unanimous amongst the judges of Nick Lane Fox, Nicholas Pritchard and Laura Jennings.
Jane has been taking photos as a hobby for many years, and started when camera film was still the ‘norm’, but in those days, she had to restrict the number of photos that she took. In these digital photography days, Jane finds it much easier to just snap away with no limit as to how many photos she takes, and that is when her interest and love in photography really took off.
A member of the Trot Up Team at Bramham for over 30 years, Jane has fond memories of Bramham in years gone by, and particularly remembers William Fox-Pitt competing his horse Steadfast in the Young Rider’s class. Jane owned a mare by the same sire as Steadfast http://your-pharmacies.com (Ascertain) and therefore had an excuse for a chat. In fact, Jane had that very mare until she died only this year at the age of 32, and she still has her offspring who is now 20!
Jane said of her win “I am absolutely delighted – it was such a surprise to get the phone call, but I couldn’t be happier”.
This year’s runner up was Iain Beavis’ true action shot of Paul Tapner and Yogi Bear VIII – which the judges felt really showed the true grit and determination that is needed to compete successfully at this level.
Event Director, Nick Pritchard said “The standard was very high this year, we had a hard job deciding, but the Jane’s picture really did stand out, and Iain’s was a close second. We’re looking forward to seeing it on next year’s cover already! Thank you to everyone who entered and supported this competition.”
Tickets for next year’s Event will be on sale on line from 1st December 2017.
