What is Cystic Fibrosis
CF is lifelong and progressive disease of the lungs and vital organs. Without proper treatment, it can be very harsh, causing severe respiratory problems, chronic infections, poor growth, and a shortened life expectancy. Even with modern treatments, people with CF most face daily challenges like burdensome medications, physiotherapy, frequent and regular hospital visits.
About Cystic Fibrosis Care
Cystic Fibrosis Care (CF Care) is a UK charity based in Yorkshire dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and adults living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). We work closely with NHS CF centres across the country to provide practical, emotional, and financial support to patients and families who face the daily challenges of this complex genetic condition.
Our mission is simple: to improve and make life better for those with CF.
What They Do
Financial & Welfare Support
CF Care offers a wide range of patient grants designed to help children and adults who are struggling with the high day-to-day costs of living with Cystic Fibrosis. These include:
- Emergency Food Voucher Grants
- Crisis Household Energy Grants
- Hospital Travel Support
- Hardship Grants
- Emotional Wellbeing Support Grants
- Educational & Vocational Training Grants for Adults with CF
- Prescription Prepayment Certificate Funding for those on low incomes
These grants are provided to patients through the CF teams who apply on behalf of their patients, ensuring support reaches those who need it most.
Supporting Hospitals and Clinical Teams
As well as helping individuals, CF Care funds vital medical equipment and resources for Specialist CF Units. These items make a huge difference to patient care and help clinical teams deliver the best treatment.
Recent examples include:
- Pari E-Flow Nebulisers
- Specialist medical devices such as the Macroduct Sweat Testing System
- Exercise equipment to improve lung health
- Hospital room refurbishments to make them more comfortable for long stays
- Digital tools and monitors to assist with home spirometry and remote care
- Support for mental-health and wellbeing initiatives
Every donation helps CF centres provide faster diagnoses, better monitoring, and more comfortable hospital experiences.
